Sr. Krogmeier was Fort Madison native

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Sister Irene Krogmeier, O.S.B., 97, died Dec. 10 at St. Mary Monastery.

A native of Fort Madison, Iowa, Irene Krogmeier (Loretta Theresa) was born Dec. 5, 1922, to John and Mary Ann (Brinkschroeder) Krogmeier. She attended Sacred Heart School in Fort Madison and St. Mary Academy in Nauvoo, Ill.

Sister Krogmeier entered the Benedictine community Sept. 8, 1944, and made her final profession as a Benedictine sister July 11, 1949.

Her ministry included working in food service, the infirmary, housekeeping and maintenance in Illinois at St. Mary Academy in Nauvoo, Benet House Retreat Center in Rock Island, Holy Family Parish in Peoria, St. Mary Parish in Moline and St. Joseph Parish in Ivesdale.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 13 at St. Mary Monastery. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Monastery.
