To the Editor:
Democracy compels a call and a response. Iowa’s first in the nation dance for democracy impels us to respond by educating families, friends, strangers and ourselves. It is not a time for retreating into a private place for comfort and ease. On our public stage, we are engaged in a struggle for the poor, for the caged children on the border, for war refugees from too many of the world’s nations. From political veterans we can learn perseverance. From “newbie” activists we can relearn hope.
We respond to this invitation through our prayers and presence and not just in November in the voting booth. Go to the Iowa Caucuses on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
