How to support Churches United’s Thanksgiving in July

Churches United of the Quad City Area, which includes eight diocesan parishes, will partner with local businesses and churches for Thanksgiving in July, a state-wide, non-perishable food and essential items drive.
All donations collected by Churches United will stay in the Quad Cities area and go directly to Churches United’s 23 food pantries, 2 hot meal sites and Winnie’s Transitional Housing. Donations will be collected throughout the month of July.

Collection boxes will be located at partner businesses throughout the community. Acceptable items include non-perishable, non-expired food items such as cereal, canned fruit, vegetables, canned meat, peanut butter, rice, pasta/pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, juice boxes, boxed meals and soups. Essential, non-food items such as, disinfecting spray, cleaning wipes, laundry detergent, aluminum foil, batteries, postage stamps and bus passes will also be accepted.

Monetary donations are also appreciated. Donations may be made online at www.cuqca.org/donate.php or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Churches UnitedoftheQuadCityArea. Churches United also accepts cash and checks.

Thanksgiving in July helps restock pantries and supports other ministries at a time of year when people don’t usually think about food drives, organizers said in a press release.

Churches United of the Quad Cities noted that its hot meal sites had to be shut down during the pandemic, but will be reopening soon. With the reopening, “it is more important than ever to have a successful Thanksgiving in July,” organizers said, adding that pantries have continued to serve in-need families and individuals throughout the pandemic.
